One Innovation makes maiden call to Rotterdam

The 2023-built 24,136TEU container vessel ONE Innovation made her maiden call at Rotterdam is not only a remarkable appearance in July 2023.

She was striking, not only because of her pink livery, but alsoas she is the first ship which can take 25 rows of 40ft containers over her length of 400m.

The ship arrived from Singapore via the Suez Canal on the Alliance’s FE3 service. In Europe, the vessel called at Hamburg, Antwerp, Southampton and Algeciras before returning to Asia.

Ocean Network Express (ONE) is the latest containership line to begin operations of a megamax containership exceeding the 24,000TEU threshold.

The new ship has a carrying capacity 20 per cent larger than the previous largest ship in the fleet, so ONE joins Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) as the first carriers to operate the new largest class of boxships.

Built by Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan, ONE Innovation is the first of six ultra-large containerships which were ordered for the fleet in December 2020 as part of ONE’s next phase of growth.

The company was established in 2017 as the integration of the containership operations of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (‘K’ LINE), Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK).
