Pol Maris has been renamed Francesco Nullo

The ro-ro cargo vessel formerly known as Pol Maris has been renamed Francesco Nullo. The renaming honors Francesco Nullo, an Italian patriot and military leader, who playeda significant role in the January Uprising of 1863 in Poland.

The vessel, owned by Polskie Linie Oceaniczne (PLO, Polish Ocean Lines), underwent a class renewal service in Turkey before returning to operation under its new name.

During the refurbishment the ship also gained a distinctive traditional funnel in keeping with the style and tradition of this shipowner.

Francesco Nullo is one of two ro-ro vessels in the PLO fleet. Built in 2010 at the Odense shipyard in Denmark, she entered service as Pol Maris and was initially chartered to Stena Line and later operated by DFDS.

Sistership Pol Stella remains in service. However, she may undergo a similar change to match the updated identity of Pol Maris.

Francesco Nullo flies the flag of Valetta, Malta, and measures 193m in length. She has a crew of 23 and has a top speed of 21.5 knots.
