Port of Hamburg: Record season in Germany with 176 calls

This year will see all records for cruise passengers in the Hanseatic port city of Hamburg broken, with 176 planned calls bringing more than 500,000 passengers to the three cruise terminals at Altona, Hafen City and Uberseebrucke. Around 95 per cent of these passengers will be either starting or finishing their cruise in the city.

Aidastella is expected to be the most frequent visitor, with 18 calls scheduled up to her final departure for this year on 25 August. Passenger numbers for the first six months of the year were up from 219,000 to 271,000, an increase of almost 25 per cent. May was a particularly busy month with 38 calls and 100,000 passengers.

Hamburg Cruise Days, held every other year in August with festivities arranged along the city’s waterfront, attracts both ships and sightseers. Thenext Hamburg Cruise Days event will be from 1 to 3 August 2014, with up to ten cruise ships expected.
