IRISH SEA: Problems for Cairnryan route vessel

European Causeway (2000/20,646gt), seen at full speed during an Irish Sea North Channel crossing in mid-August, maintained P&O’s Cairnryan-Larne passenger and vehicle service single-handed at the beginning of September after sister European Highlander (2002/21,118gt) had to be withdrawn with generator problems. The two ships were built in Japan by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and P&O placed the 410-passenger/375-car Causeway on a four return crossings a day single ship schedule.
