REEFER: World’s biggest reefer ship

The ship with the biggest reefer capacity currently, 1,600 reefer plugs, docked in South Africa for the first time in early December 2010. The 93,430dwt Santa Clara, which has a nominal slot capacity of 7,100TEU and a length of 299.95m, is the largest vessel ever operated by Hamburg Sud. She was constructed in just under nine months at the Okpo yard in South Korea and, when handed over to her owners in October 2010, became the first of ten new Hamburg Sud container ships of the Santa class. She entered service in the New Good Hope Express Service between

Asia and Africa/South America, East Coast, which Hamburg Sud operates jointly with a partner.

The other nine sisterships will follow by the end of 2012. They are all fitted with technical innovations to reduce fuel consumption.
