Two 25,600dwt LNG-fueled bulk carriers being built for Finland’s ESL Shipping by China’s Qingshan Shipyard are to be fitted with MacGregor deck cranes incorporating a remote-controlled discharging feature that will be tested as the vessels enter service next year.

The feature is expected to allow the cranes to be monitored and controlled from the bridge to improve efficiency as well as safety by eliminating the need for personnel to be placed in hazardous operational areas.

Designed by Finland’s Deltamarin the 525ft by 85ft vessels will be ice classed and will have a relatively shallow draught of 32.8ft for trading conditions in the Baltic Sea.

Each will carry a 400-cubic-metre capacity type ‘C’ LNG storage tank mounted directly behind the superstructure.
