Netherlands-based RMR Shipping has chosen London Thamesport to handle the UK call of its North West Europe-West Africa ro-ro service. The first call of the service was made by the 176m ro-ro vessel Dresden (37,237gt) on 25 May. The vessel has the versatility to handle a wide variety of cargoes through quarter and side ramps, which allow cargo to be loaded and discharged directly onto the quay.
The vessel has the capacity to hold 4,000-plus cars and ro-ro units on fully-enclosed decks. The Cyprus-flagged vessel is operated by Siem Car Carriers of Gdynia, but has been chartered by RMR. Built in 2000 and with a deadweight of 12,743, Dresden will be part of a service that offers transport for a variety of general and wheeled cargoes to Lagos in Nigeria, Dakar in Senegal and Abidjan on the Ivory Coast. Project and conventional cargoes are also accepted, utilising the line’s own Mafi trailers. RC
