Runcorn Docks on the up

Runcorn Docks on the Manchester Ship Canal finished 2014 in style by recording its highest monthly volume of freight in 25 years, with 50,126 tonnes of cargo shipped in December, including its largest ever single shipment. Peel Ports Group has invested more than £3.4 million in improvements to facilities at Runcorn Docks.

The total for the year amounted to 408,636 tons, a 48 per cent increase on 2013, and this is expected to increase by 12.5% per cent in 2015 to 460,000 tons. The largest single shipment was a cargo of 6,212 tons of Soda Ash for Newport Industries Ltd, which was unloaded from the 6,750 dwt cargo vessel Kristin C, which is operated by Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd and based in the Isle of Wight.
