Viking Takes Delivery of Newest River Ship in Europe

On 19 March 2025 Viking (www.viking.com) proudly announced the delivery of its newest Viking Longship, Viking Nerthus.

The ceremony took place at Meyer’s Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany.

Designed to host 168 guests in 84 staterooms, Viking Nerthus will join Viking’s fleet of modern sisterships navigating the Seine River.

Guests will have the opportunity to sail on two itineraries: the eight-day Paris & the Heart of Normandy and the newly introduced eight-day Christmastime in Paris & Normandy.

“We are proud to welcome Viking Nerthus to our growing fleet of award-winning Viking Longships,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking.

“France continues to be a destination of great interest for our guests, and with the arrival of our newest ship on the Seine River, we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to the region’s rich history and cultural treasures in ‘the Viking way.’”

Viking Nerthus features Viking’s signature Scandinavian design, offering a square bow, an Aquavit Terrace, and a variety of stateroom options.

The ship is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system, onboard solar panels, and shore power capabilities, ensuring enhanced energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

Identical to sisterships such as Viking Kari, Viking Radgrid, Viking Skaga, and Viking Fjorgyn, Viking Nerthus is designed for modern comfort and elegance.

Sailing roundtrip from Paris, Viking Nerthus will visit destinations along the Seine, including Giverny, Rouen, and the beaches of Normandy.

Looking ahead, Viking continues to expand its capacity. The company has committed to the delivery of 25 additional river ships by 2028, as well as nine more ocean ships by 2030.

This growth will bring Viking’s fleet to a total of 109 river ships and 21 ocean and expedition ships by the end of the decade.
