Taiwanese carrier Wan Hai Lines, the world’s 11th-largest liner operator, has ordered eight 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel containerships in a $1.6 billion deal split between Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries.
Scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028, these new ships align with Wan Hai’s long-term business expansion strategy.
The recent order follows contracts with Hyundai Samho and Taiwan’s CSBC in August. With 30 new vessels totalling 308,339 TEU set to join Wan Hai’s current fleet of 123 ships (530,000 TEU), the line could soon surpass Taiwan’s Yang Ming and Israel’s Zim, currently ranked ninth globally.
