Nanjing Jinling Shipyard, a division of China Merchants Industry, has successfully delivered the 62,000dwt ultra-flexible multi-purpose vessel Pacific Providence to China Merchants Shipping.
The ship handover and naming ceremony took place on 25 April 2025, marking the introduction of the first vessel in the Mingrong series, a fleet of four ships commissioned under a 2023 contract.
Designed by the Shanghai Ship Design Institute (SDARI) and classified by the China Classification Society (CCS), this vessel represents a new generation of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly ships.
It measures 199.9m by 32.26m, and 19m in depth, with a service speed of 14.4 knots. The ship’s design incorporates CFD-optimised lines and features five cargo holds, enhancing its cargo-handling capabilities.
Equipped with four cranes on the port side, each capable of lifting up to 300 tons, the vessel is built for versatility in cargo operations. It also includes large-diameter propeller thrusters, ensuring compliance with the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) PHASE 3 standards.
Additionally, the ship is fitted with an energy efficiency management system developed by China Merchants Industry, with plans for future integration with the IMP management system from China Merchants Shipping.
