The second wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) built by Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore for Deme Group has officially been launched.
Named Norse Energi, the vessel joins its sister ship Norse Wind and is designed to handle the installation of turbines with rotor diameters exceeding 300m, as well as XXL monopiles weighing up to 3,000 tonnes.
It is engineered to operate effectively even in water depths of up to 70m, making it well suited to tackle the demanding conditions of offshore wind projects.
The vessel’s construction began with the cutting of the first steel in January, based on a design by GustoMSC.
The launch follows a series of strategic moves that started in 2021, when Havfram, now part of Deme Group, signed a letter of intent with China’s CIMC-Raffles to build a new generation of WTIVs.
Havfram later exercised the option to build a second vessel in April 2023, further reinforcing Deme’s investment in offshore wind capacity.
Both Norse Wind and Norse Energi are scheduled for delivery in late 2025 and early 2026, respectively.
Their deployment marks a pivotal moment in Deme’s commitment to renewable energy, particularly offshore wind.
