First CoCo Yachts Coastal Cruiser 448 delivered to Zan Fast Ferries

First CoCo Yachts Coastal Cruiser 448 delivered to Zan Fast Ferries on 28 November 2019, the first of two CoCo Yachts Coastal Cruiser 448 vessels, named Zanzibar 1, was delivered to Zan Fast Ferries Company Limited.

After competition between world known fast ferry players, CoCo Yachts – Plenty Ships were able to secure this fantastic order. The sister ship, ZANZIBAR 2, will undertake sea trials end of December 2019, and will be delivered shortly after.

The aluminium high speed passenger ferries are designed and built in accordance with Bureau Veritas and IMO – High Speed Code – 2000. The hull has been designed and optimized by using our in house HPC cluster, running Numeca FineMarine CFD software, in order to achieve the best possible performance. Official recorded speed at 45 tons trial load was over 37 knots.

The interior design is fresh and light, with the colors of Tanzania. Special attention has been given to passenger comfort, ensuring (very) low noise and vibrations levels, fabulous outside views due to big side windows and a high capacity air conditioning system.

Luxurious West Mekan seats with leather upholstery are installed throughout the vessel. Gold- and Platinum Class passengers can enjoy reclining seats, and have their own USB appliances charge connection in their seats. Outside seating is arranged on upper deck aft and main deck fore.

The vessel is equipped with automatic ride control system from Humpfree. The system not only keeps the trim at the optimum point to reduce fuel consumption, it also reduces motions in more severe wave conditions.

Trials in waves up to 3m confirmed the performance of the Humpfree system in combination with the excellent designed hull, where accelerations where less than expected (<< 1g), and the speed maintained at 35+ knots, sailing against waves.

The vessel has a length over all of 49.72 meters, a beam over all of 11.20 meters and a maximum draft of 1.35 meters. The vessel will have a cruising speed of 33.5 knots, using 2x MTU 16V4000M63L engines connected to MJP750 DRB waterjets through ZF 9050 reversible gearboxes at 90% MCR.

The Coastal Cruiser 448 has an independent luggage space, which can fit 12 luggage trolleys. Vessel access has been arranged by 6 electrical winch operated ramps, 2 to be dedicated for luggage trolleys, and 4 for passengers.

The most forward ramp will give access to the main and upper deck, where as directly after entering the vessel, the stairs to upper deck can be found. This to make it easier for business class travellers to find their seats.

Zan Fast Ferries is a Tanzanian company, based in Zanzibar, and is new in the ferry market in Tanzania. The new specially for Zan Fast Ferries designed Coastal Cruisers 448 will start the service between Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar beginning of 2020.
