LNG-fuelled car carriers ordered

Sweden’s Wallenius has ordered two 200m by 37m pure car carriers from Chinese shipbuilder CIMC Raffles that will be competed to a concept design developed by Denmark’s Knud E. Hansen.

The twin ships, capable of carrying up to 6,500 vehicles, will operate on LNG and will be fitted with Type C fuel tanks as well as a related gas supply and control system.

The twin vessels, to be long-term chartered to Volkswagen, will be delivered in 2023/24 and may be followed by up to four additional ships of similar size. Jim Shaw
