Brittany Ferries has been awarded a new contract by the UK Department for Transport to provide guaranteed freight capacity on its Portsmouth – Caen, Portsmouth-Le Havre and Poole-Cherbourg routes from 31 October until 30 April 2020.

While the frequency of sailings from Portsmouth remains unchanged, the ro-pax ferry Barfleur (1992/20,133gt) is providing an additional three rotations a week between Poole and Cherbourg.

This extra capacity will help ensure the flow of critical products such as medicines in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

During Barfleur’s five-week overhaul at Santander’s Astander shipyard at the end of this year, replacement vessel Connemara (2007/26,500gt) will operate a single daily round trip between the two ports.
