Windermere’s newest vessel lights up for Platinum Jubilee

The newest passenger vessel on Windermere in the Lake District has been showing off its royal colours in preparation to honour The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Swift will light up in royal purple as part of the Lake District’s celebration of Her Majesty’s 70-year-reign.

The Windermere Lake Cruises vessel will take part in “The Light District” – when attractions, homes, monuments and gardens will light up across the Lake District in celebration of a historic moment in time. “The Light District” will illuminate the skies on the evening of Thursday 2 June at 9.45pm.

This is to coincide with the lighting of beacons nationwide and throughout the Commonwealth.

Windermere Lake Cruises has a long connection with the Royal family,” says Windermere Lake Cruises’ Sales and Marketing Director Jennifer Cormack. “We want to show our support for Her Majesty’s incredible reign and are delighted to take part in “The Light District” celebration.

“Her Majesty has been a remarkable figurehead for the UK over so many decades,” says Jennifer Cormack. “That is why we are determined to join other locations and light up the skies of the Lake District in honour of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.”

Swift became the newest addition to the fleet of Windermere Lake Cruises when it came into operation in October 2020 at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic. She can carry 300 passengers.

The Queen has been a regular visitor to the Lake District throughout her reign and has twice enjoyed trips with Windermere Lake Cruises – travelling on the “steamer” Teal in 1956 and 2013.
