MSC launches new container line between the Port of Gothenburg and Asia

MSC, the world’s largest container shipping company, has launched a new container service providing direct traffic between the Port of Gothenburg and Asia.

Every week, MSC vessels with a capacity of over 15,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) will transport goods between Gothenburg and various ports in China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The first vessel in the service, MSC Auriga, made its inaugural call at the Port of Gothenburg on Sunday evening. With a capacity of over 15,000TEU, MSC Auriga is set to depart for Asian ports such as Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Yokohama, Singapore, and Busan, which are crucial for Swedish import and export businesses.

MSC has expressed enthusiasm for introducing its standalone network to the Swedish market through the Port of Gothenburg. Customers will benefit from MSC’s direct service, coupled with consistent high-quality operations. Additionally, MSC’s extensive fleet enables rapid responses to global events, ensuring flexibility in the ever-changing business landscape.

In addition to this direct service, MSC provides two additional sailings per week through transshipment in Bremerhaven or Antwerp. This makes destinations in North and South America, the Mediterranean, Africa, and other global ports within MSC’s network accessible.

The Port of Gothenburg continues to serve as a vital gateway for Swedish industry, bolstered by its comprehensive liner network, excellent infrastructure, and efficient terminal operations.

The new direct service will follow a weekly route connecting Gothenburg, Aarhus, Hamburg, Antwerp, Port Klang, Singapore, Laem Chabang, Vung Tau, Busan, Yokohama, Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Singapore, Sines, Le Havre, Rotterdam, and back to Gothenburg.
