HEAVY LIFTERS: More lift ships for Biglift

BigLift Shipping has placed its latest heavylift ship, Happy Sky, in service following the 18,680dwt vessel’s completion by India’s Larsen & Toubro yard and the installation of twin 900mt heavylift cranes by Huisman of Zhangzhou, China.

In response to market demands, the crane pedestals were built 4m higher than in the original plans to give the newbuilding a superior lifting height so that it can accommodate oversized cargoes. The single long cargo hold features folding hatch covers, while a large poop deck and cargo rails make the vessel’s full deck area available for cargo stowage. The 17-knot ship’s ‘tween deck is also adjustable in height, and the overall design allows sailing with open weather deck hatches at a draught of up to 7.5m. JS
