Port news: All change on the Humber

Associated British Ports (ABP) announced a reorganisation of its Humber ports to bring its operational and commercial teams under one umbrella. It was separated into two groups covering Hull and Goole on the north bank of the river and Grimsby and Immingham on the south. ABP will create a new single organisation to manage all four Humber Ports.

The move is said to be a response to increasing demand from customers. Co-operation between the ports was already in evidence when TransAtlantic UK Ltd (formerly Pal Line) announced in 2011 that they were having difficulty getting vessels up to Goole, where they had been trading for over 30 years, due to size and volumes of cargo.

ABP agreed a new contract with the company on a ten-year deal that saw the company move operations to King George Dock, Hull, where a deepwater access terminal, with a new £3.5 million 8,500m2 warehouse with a direct rail link, was available. RC
