SUPPLY VESSEL: LNG-powered success

In November 2013 international energy company Statoil extended the time charter with Eidesvik Offshore of Norway of the LNG-powered supply vessel Viking Queen. This is the second optional extension to a contract first signed in 2006, and will cover the period to November 2014.

Viking Queen, a 6,200dwt supply vessel, was delivered to Eidesvik in 2007 by West Contractors AS of Ølensvåg. She was built on a hull supplied by Crist Sp z o.o. of Gdansk and emerged as an ice-capable platform supply ship, being taken on charter by Statoil to supply offshore installations in the North Sea. She was built with her accommodation area aft, and unusually was powered by LNG. The advantages of LNG are that the engine and systems are clean, reducing the amount of cleaning and thus the vessel’s downtime. RC
