Hybrid shuttle tanker to be built for Knutsen

Haugesund, Norway-based Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers expects to take delivery of two new 124,000-dwt shuttle tankers from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in June and September of next year for long-term charter to Italian energy major ENI.

Ordered last year, the twin ships will be capable of burning LNG as fuel, as well as recovered volatile organic compounds (VOC), and will also have battery banks installed to allow hybrid running during dynamic positioning operations.

Once they are delivered, the twin ships will be employed in the North Sea oil fields.
