CONTAINER SHIP: New service at Felixstowe

MSC’s Lion service connecting Felixstowe with the important Asian market commenced in May to provide one of the fastest available eastbound connections for UK exporters. The service commenced with a call from MSC Bruxelles (2005/107,849gt) in May, but from July these 9,200TEU vessels will be replaced with MSC’s largest container vessels, such as the new 14,000TEU MSC Livorno (153,115gt).

Felixstowe is the only UK port at the present time which can accommodate the next generation of container ships and, with new berths due to come on line later this year, there will be additional capacity for these ultra-large ships. The service connects with ports such as Qingdao, Pusan, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
